It's the hand that prepares bottles of milk every two hours when problems arise, feeds the puppies, and rubs their bellies to get their digestion going. A breeder's hand is the one that gets hardly any rest, even at night, for three weeks, dedicated solely to the mother and puppies, happily recording every gram gained in the weight chart. A breeder's hand is the one that prepares the first solid food, feeds the puppies regularly for another five weeks, keeps the whelping box clean, plays with the puppies, and teaches them the basics of life. A breeder's hand is the one that answers the many questions of prospective puppy owners beforehand, sends them pictures and videos, prepares for the farewell, and does everything in advance to ensure it goes smoothly. A breeder's hand is the one that puts the puppy's first collar on its head and wipes away the breeder's tears at the parting. A breeder's hand is also the one that regularly picks up the phone or writes and answers emails, checking on the well-being of all the sold dogs, answering many questions, and helping to solve problems. It's also the hand that puts the money from the sales into the dog fund, knowing that new expenses are coming soon to care for the pack, because a loving and responsible breeder doesn't get rich from breeding; other parties also want a share. But a breeder's hand is also the one that feels the breeder's heart beat faster when their dogs and puppies are doing well and they see happy puppy parents.
